What Would a Grade A Draft Have Looked Like for the Eagles?
By Jesse Shuter
Round 6 (196): Kyle Murphy OT, Stanford
Original Pick: Blake Countess CB, Auburn
I didn’t mind the Countess pick. I remember him from when he played at Michigan and was their top cornerback. It was, however, when their defense was a joke and couldn’t stop anyone. He continued to produce for Auburn, but went unmentioned for most of draft season until he had a visit with the Eagles.
Countess likely would have went undrafted had it not been for the Eagles and that is why he is not the pick here.
Another option here would have been Vaitai. Further proving that the Eagles draft, while solid a retaining decent players, did not show a mastery of understanding value.
Murphy, who was the pick by the Green Bay Packers at 200, was very solid for Stanford and has enough size and talent to develop into a starting tackle. In the sixth round it is hard to find starters and Murphy likely will not be one, but he has a much better shot than Vaitai who went a round earlier.
