1. Defense wins championships

Yes, it’s a cliche, but defense does win championships. The Eagles have a good one and it’s only getting better.

The addition of Jim Schwartz may be the most important acquisition of the offseason for the Eagles. With Schwartz as defensive coordinator, the Eagles will make a welcomed return to the 4-3 defense. Many of the Eagles’ top defensive playmakers such as Fletcher Cox, Vinny Curry, Brandon Graham and Mychal Kendricks were all drafted to play in Andy Reid‘s 4-3 scheme. When Chip Kelly took over in 2013, that threw things in a bit of a loop. Now, they’ll be able to play the roles they were supposed to be playing all along.

The Eagles have a strong front seven and could potentially have one of the top safety tandems in the league this season. If the defense as a whole is as good as some believe it will be, it could become one of the most dominant units in the NFL for quite some time.
