5. They (will) have some cap space

As of right now, the Eagles currently have the NFL’s lowest amount of available cap space in 2017 (they are $11 million over the projected cap). However, that will change before the start of 2017’s free agency period thanks to a couple of easy moves that would save a lot of dollars.

Sam Bradford‘s days in Philadelphia are numbered. He may be the team’s starter for 2016, but beyond that, the starting job will likely belong to Wentz. The Eagles can cut him after the 2016 season, which would save $13 million.

Jason Peters was an anchor on the Eagles’ offensive line in recent years, but his age and injuries have cause his performance to decline. If he is released, the Eagles could save close to $10 million in cap space.

Connor Barwin, who no longer fits the Eagles’ defensive scheme, could also be released, saving the team close to $8 million in cap space.

The Eagles’ financial situation isn’t ideal, but it’s fixable. With Howie Roseman’s negotiating skills, the Eagles could save even more money by trading players for draft picks (which they could certainly use after trading up for Wentz).
