Projecting the statistical leaders for the Philadelphia Eagles in 2016
By Tim Fernando
Receiving
2015-16 Stats: 85 receptions/997 yards/8 touchdowns
Projected 2016-17 Stats: 80-90 receptions/1,150 yards/10 touchdowns
This is the year Matthews comes of age and showcases himself as a genuine number one receiver. Through two seasons, Matthews has hauled in 16 touchdowns and gained nearly 1,900 yards.
Matthews cost himself a 1,000 yard season and a possible 10 touchdowns last year because of drops. If he can rectify that this year, there is no reason the 1,000 yard barrier can’t be eclipsed comfortably.
Matthews is a bigger Jeremy Maclin, a well rounded receiver who knows how to use his size. Matthews won’t blow the top off an offense, but he’s comfortable being used in the slot where he can create mismatches and is talented enough to play outside when asked. Matthews will produce slightly higher numbers given he’s probably going to be the primary target among the wideouts.
