Philadelphia Eagles projected 2016 preseason two-deep depth chart
By Ryan Quigley
Free Safety
- Rodney McLeod
- Ed Reynolds
The Eagles lost Walter Thurmond this offseason, but they’ve replaced him with something much, much better in Rodney McLeod.
McLeod could end up being the Eagles’ best free agent signing this offseason. McLeod is an aggressive safety with great range and instincts and fits perfectly in Jim Schwartz’s defense. With his physical play and hard-hitting nature, he could end up being a fan favorite in Philadelphia for years to come.
Ed Reynolds makes sense as McLeod’s backup. Despite seeing limited snaps on defense, Reynolds had a game-sealing interception against the Buffalo Bills in Week 14. Reynolds also brings good special teams ability to the table, which is so valuable for fringe players looking to make a roster as a backup.
If Reynolds does not impress enough to make the team, rookie safety Blake Countess could be a suitable backup to McLeod as well.
