Eagles: 5 Possible targets at linebacker in 2018’s draft
3. Porter Gustin, outside linebacker, USC Trojans
There’s some questions as to whether or not Porter Gustin will eventually become a defensive end at the next level. If any NFL team chooses to go with the option of letting him play while standing up, they should be fairly happy with the results.
For those of you who don’t watch west-coast football, you may have been missing a treat. Gustin has quietly grown into one of the best edge rushers in the country. With 93 tackles (20 for a loss in yardage) and 11 sacks in 24 games played, Gustin has already found his way onto draft boards. A stellar junior season, especially one that produces a double-digit sack total could catapult him into the national consciousness.
His skill set may lead some to believe he’s better suited for the 3-4 defensive scheme. His highlight reel may eventually reveal he isn’t a fit for Schwartz’s style of defense. Either way, his raw ability and versatility should still be reason enough for the Eagles to give him some serious looks. Keep an eye on him.
