5. Numbers alone don’t tell the story about Vinny Curry.

According to Schwartz, the early-season knee injury may have played into defensive end Vinny Curry’s production a little. He believes the stat lines that both he and fellow defensive end Brandon Graham produced won’t lead to a lot of headlines, but the numbers do little to demonstrate the value that both added to a young defense that’s still learning how to be great.

In the case of Curry, Schwartz says the fact that he “ended up on the ground too much” can be corrected in footwork. One extra step here and there would have led to a few more sacks and countless quarterback pressures, but he acknowledges Curry is a professional with talent. What isn’t being discussed, according to Schwartz, is the fact that in many instances, Curry created pressure that led to a sack for someone else, and there were, still, other times where opposing quarterbacks were forced to throw the ball away.

Schwartz says guys possessing this level of talent can bounce back from these things relatively quickly. He described last season as “a blip”. That’s good enough for us as of right now.

All in all, we’ll just have to see what happens now, won’t we?
