Verdict

Chubb is a mid-to-late second-round pick with room to grow as a prospect. If he proves he’s moved past his knee injury, he’s a top sixty player.

Chubb put together a solid year in 2016 splitting reps with Sony Michel. He was operating behind a less-than stellar offensive line, and was visibly not his old self. It’s nothing short of a miracle that Chubb played at all this year, so his 1,130 rushing yards were impressive (five yards per carry). Whether or not Chubb recaptures his former athletic ability remains to be seen, but he was never a back that relied purely on speed, so losing some burst is not a death sentence.

On tape Chubb showed to be a powerful and consistent back that can get the job done in the NFL. While he lacks the speed of Derrius Guice, or the all-around playmaking ability of Saquon Barkley, Chubb has the vision and veteran running back savvy to keep him producing each Sunday. He is a consistent back that breaks arm tackles and scores TD’s, while beating up a defense between the 20s.

Chubb’s weaknesses are areas that he will need to prove he can overcome. His injury history is significant and another major knee injury could spell the end of his career. Chubb also showed inconsistency in his pass blocking, a skill he will need to hone to stay on the field for all three downs. He will need to improve in the passing game as well, as he’s failed to reach more than 18 receptions in any single season.
