4. The Wentz era begins with a bang.

It doesn’t get much better than a 29-10 final score and 278 passing yards with two touchdowns in a rookie quarterback’s NFL debut. That’s exactly what Wentz did against the Browns. The second of those two touchdown passes was a beautiful rainbow to Nelson Agholor. That would earn him Pepsi NFL Rookie of the Week honors. With the spotlight now on Philly’s signal caller, he answered the questions about what he’d do for an encore by simply following up one fantastic performance with two others. He led the Eagles to victories over both the Chicago Bears and the Pittsburgh Steelers, giving “The Birds” a 3-0 mark to start the 2016 season.

The Wentz era had it’s share of ups and downs. Still, at season’s end, the young man had come of age. He finished with 379 completions (an NFL record by a rookie). His 607 pass attempts were a franchise record and the second-highest number of attempts by a rookie in league history. That honor belongs to Andrew Luck. Wentz’s production in 2016 was phenomenal seeing as how he spent the majority of the campaign with nothing around him. He caught the eye of fans everywhere, including one who coined a phrase that probably won’t be going anywhere for the duration of Wentz’s time in Philly.
