Training Camp Battle #2: Allen Barbre vs. Isaac Seumalo

The receiver battle is going to matter for as long as Wentz is throwing the ball. Keeping him upright will be of the utmost importance. The bookends of the offensive line are set in stone. At left guard however, the starter will likely to try to establish themselves early in training camp. It would be prudent for Pederson to determine the starter early as well.

Over the course of OTA’s and mini-camps, the two split starts at left guard. According to John McMullen, the Eagles would prefer Seumalo at guard while Barbre would back up Lane Johnson and/or Jason Peters. That would make sense since Barbre served as a both a replacement tackle and guard last season. Seumalo also made a start at right tackle last season, replacing Barbre. The circle of life.

This positional battle won’t draw the attention of the national media, but it is an important battle for what some consider the best offensive line in football. Regardless of who wins the starting job at left guard, the true winner is ultimately the Eagles. Depth finally exists along their offensive line after Chip Kelly gutted the line during his tenure.
