A Philadelphia Eagles reunion with LeSean McCoy is unlikely
It is rumored that Bills running back LeSean McCoy is on the trading block, and some Eagles fans want a reunion.
When the Philadelphia Eagles traded away their all-time rushing leader LeSean McCoy, the fan base was left devastated. How could they trade away the hometown kid who had been one of the faces of the franchise since 2009? The simple answer would be Chip Kelly. The head coach/general manager who thought linebacker Kiko Alonso was more valuable then McCoy’s contract.
To say that McCoy was disappointed in the move would be a massive understatement. It has been three years since the trade and McCoy still receives questions about it. Every single time it’s brought up, he makes sure that everyone feels his frustration. While the signings of DeMarco Murray and Ryan Mathews helped Eagles fans get over things temporarily, it all seems to come back to McCoy in the end. After Murray and Mathews failed to bring the same success to the Eagles backfield as McCoy did, some Eagles fans are hoping for they’ll see the Pennsylvania native in Eagles green one more time.
An unhappy “Shady”…
Philadelphia Eagles
McCoy has never been the shy type when it comes to voicing his opinion. Just recently, he’s been upset with the current situation going on with the Buffalo Bills. While the entire NFL is aware that the Bills are in the process of a re-build, the 29-year-old running back has a win-now mindset.
Clearly, Buffalo is not afraid to trade away some of their star assets. Just recently they sent wide receiver Sammy Watkins to the Los Angeles Rams. Now there are rumors surrounding McCoy’s name, and some teams may be reaching out. Could the Eagles be searching for a reunion with McCoy?
A trade is unlikely.
The idea of McCoy headlining the Eagles backfield sounds almost too good to be true. You know what they say though. If it seems too good to be true, then it probably is. Since Chip Kelly released some of the fan base’s most beloved players, fans have been constantly wishing for reunions. Just this off-season fans were hoping that the Eagles would sign former receiver DeSean Jackson through free agency.
The wishing didn’t stop there. When former Eagles receiver Jeremy Maclin was released from the Kansas City Chiefs, some of the fan base was hoping the Eagles would sign him. Although there were rumors that it almost happened, it didn’t.

So now there’s that section of the Eagles fan base that wants executive vice president of football operations Howie Roseman to get back on the phone with the Bills and inquire about Shady. As great as it sounds, it’s the wrong move. The Eagles need to move on from the past and start fresh with young players.
It’s likely that the Eagles will plan to draft talent for the backfield in next year’s draft. Although McCoy looks to some like he hasn’t missed a step yet, he’ll regress sooner than later. It’s time to start building for the future and letting the past stay in the past.
