The Philadelphia Eagles aren’t quite done fine tuning their roster.

According to a team announcement, the Philadelphia Eagles have reached injury settlements with two players. Safety Tre Sullivan and defensive end Alex McCalister are no longer members of the team. Both have been waived.

Both were making some fairly interesting cases for themselves all preseason. When both sustained injuries in the season finale versus the New York Jets, they were subsequently placed on the team’s injured reserve. At the time, we thought that was the team’s attempt to keep both in the fold without inconveniencing themselves by holding up two roster spots.

It appears that we were wrong.

What happened?

McCalister was doing everything he could to make the roster, but when we all saw the Eagles extend Steven Means, the writing was ultimately on the wall. For more on Means’ contract extension, click here.

McCalister was taken in round seven, 240th overall, by the Eagles in 2016. Per NFL.com, he’s played in four games and started one. He has six tackles, including 3.5 sacks for his career, and he’s forced two fumbles.

Sullivan, on the other hand, went undrafted. He’s a six-foot safety from Shepherd who caught the attention of the Eagles after being named first-team All-Mountain East Conference.

In his senior season, he racked up 74 tackles (53 of those were solo). He also added two interceptions and nine passes defensed. He showed some talent on special teams as well, blocking three kicks in his final season in Shepherdstown, West Virginia.

Moving forward:

For their sake, let’s all hope their NFL aspirations don’t end here. Philly could bring both back at a later date. If so that would have to be three weeks after the injury settlement time expires. Philly’s injured reserve now consists of three players, wide receiver Dom Williams, defensive tackle Aziz Shittu and cornerback Randall Goforth.

There are probably no further roster updates coming prior to Sunday’s game, but who knows with the Eagles anymore.
