The hope is Eagles cornerback Ronald Darby could return by week seven of the 2017 season.

There weren’t many drawbacks to the Philadelphia Eagles decision to trade wide receiver Jordan Matthews for cornerback Ronald Darby. At least that’s what we thought anyway. Philly was desperate for help at corner, and Darby was an immediate upgrade from what they already had. There was just one issue that we kept hearing by word of mouth.

The theory was Darby had a tendency to get nicked up pretty easily. That became painfully evident when, in week one versus the Washington Redskins, Mr. Darby went down with a non-contact injury. Some were concerned about the long-term ramifications of what appeared to be a pretty bad injury. The following Monday, an MRI revealed that the best-case scenario was a four-week recovery process.

Every Eagles fan immediately breathed a sigh of relief.

According to head coach Doug Pederson, things may be pretty close to the scheduled time frame. “He’s getting there, obviously. We’ll continue with the rehab this week and get him moving a little bit more. He’s on schedule, but with the severity of the injury, as you saw in the Washington game, it’s just going to take time” said the Eagles’ second-year head coach.

If Darby were to take the full six weeks to heal, once thought to be the worst-case scenario, that would put him in the lineup for a week-seven tilt with, of all teams, the Redskins. It’s funny how things work out huh?

Pederson continued his thought on Darby:

“That’s kind of the target deadline, if there is one, but I’m not going to hold it as a hard deadline. I’m not going to put him in a box. These things take time. You saw the replay and you saw the ankle. It just takes time.”

Enough said.
