Eagles news and notes: Lane Johnson in protocol with head injury
Eagles right tackle Lane Johnson remains a question mark for Thursday night due to a head injury.
There wasn’t much to complain about following the Philadelphia Eagles 34-7 victory over the Arizona Cardinals. There was one snafu however. Starting right tackle Lane Johnson was held out of the second half of the Eagles’ week-five masterpiece after being evaluated at halftime for a head injury.
Per Eagles head coach Doug Pederson, who spoke with 94 WIP-FM‘s Morning Show with Angelo Cataldi on Monday morning, as he always does, he’ll speak with team doctors shortly after his Monday afternoon press conference. That’s scheduled for around 1 P.M. EST, so we should know more by then.
How serious is Johnson’s injury?

As you know, head injuries in the NFL are taken very seriously these days, as they should be. We normally don’t see guys cleared to play seven days after being diagnosed with concussions. With that being said, it’s very unlikely that we’ll see Johnson cleared to play for a Thursday night game. It just doesn’t seem feasible that he’ll be in the lineup against the Carolina Panthers.
You’ve seen the stats over and over about how the Eagles fare in Johnson’s absence, and yes, you’re going to have to read them again. We’ll just give you recent history and ignore the first suspension. Since last season, the Eagles are 8-2 with Johnson in the lineup, and they’re 2-8 in the 10 games he missed.

In the second half of the Cardinals game, Halapoulivaati Vaitai filled in nicely for Johnson, and he’s shown he belongs in the league despite a disastrous start to his NFL career against the Washington Redskins. The Panthers’ defensive line is a whole different monster though, so expect Vaitai and the rest of the Eagles’ offensive line to have their hands full.
