Philadelphia Eagles 2017 NFL Draft mid season grades
Rasul Douglas, CB, 3rd Round.
Rasul Douglas had a solid offseason a few months back. He made a strong case early on that he could contribute on defense. But his inconsistency in the preseason made the team second guess using him. He was clearly going to remain on the roster, but in the beginning of the regular season, the Eagles saw no use for him.
Douglas was listed as an inactive during week one against the Washington Redskins. Without Ronald Darby getting injured, there is no telling whether Douglas would have ever suited up this season or not. After being listed as a healthy scratch in the first week, Douglas ended up finding himself in the starting lineup by week three. Since then, Douglas has improved big time.
He let up a couple of big plays let up here and there, but Douglas has proved so far that he can handle guarding NFL wide receivers. In the seven games that he played in, Douglas came up with 15 total tackles and two interceptions. Not bad for a third-round rookie. When Darby and Sidney Jones come back from their injuries, Douglas could find himself buried on the depth chart. That doesn’t necessarily mean he won’t see many snaps. If he continues to prove he is solid, there is no doubt the Eagles will find a way to utilize him.
