Eagles QB coach John DeFilippo remains a candidate for Cardinals coaching job

Philadelphia Eagles quarterback coach, John DeFilippo remains on the Arizona Cardinals radar.

The Philadelphia Eagles coaching staff didn’t seem to be breaking apart any time soon as of last week. When it was announced that the New York Giants no longer had an interest in Jim Schwartz, it seemed like everybody on board would be here for at least another season. Even ESPN’s Adam Schefter believed the Eagles would retain everybody after the successful 2017-2018 season.

We can’t get comfortable just yet, though. As the Arizona Cardinals are currently looking to bring Eagles quarterback’s coach, John DeFilippo back for a second interview. The news came out on Tuesday morning that the Cardinals would like to interview DeFilippo once again in the next week or so when he is available.

With the Eagles being in the NFC Championship this week, the Cardinals will have to hold off on talking to DeFilippo until next week. He is not the only candidate left on the Cardinals radar, though. They apparently have interest in Mike Munchak, the offensive line coach of the Pittsburgh Steelers.

DeFilippo left on the market…

The Eagles coaching staff was probably thrilled to hear that Schwartz will be back next season. But the loss of DeFilippo could worry some considering the success he has had with Carson Wentz in 2017. Even if he doesn’t land the head coaching job with the Cardinals, he could still get a promotion elsewhere.

Reports came out this week stating that teams interested in DeFilippo becoming an offensive coordinator somewhere. Of course the reports never really picked up too much steam. But there could still be a possibility as some new head coaches will be looking to hire their own staff for the 2018 season.

DeFilippo is no stranger to a coordinator job either. He ran the offense for the 2015 Cleveland Browns before being let go after the firing of the teams head coach, Mike Pettine. So even if DeFilippo leaves Arizona without an offer, he could still find another job somewhere outside of Philadelphia.
