Philadelphia Eagles: Grading the 2017 rookie draft class
CB Sidney Jones, 2nd Rd
Sidney Jones’ ruptured Achilles was the talk of the draft a month before everything went down. He was looked at as a lock to go within the first ten picks and was potentially going to be the first cornerback off the board. Unfortunately, his Pro Day injury would put a stop to his top-ten journey. Jones was clueless as to when he would be selected.
Although the rumor was that Jones would likely miss his rookie season, the Eagles would not give up on him. They were the first and only team to reach out to him after his injury. When day two of the draft begun, the Eagles took a gamble and drafted Jones with the 43rd pick of the draft.
The selection confused a lot of Eagles fans. While Jones was clearly one of the better corners coming out of college, the second round seemed like too much of a gamble to some fans considering the Eagles needed immediate help at cornerback. Jones would end up playing for the Eagles in his rookie season, but only for one game. As of right now, it is tough to tell whether the second round pick was worth it or not.
