John Kelly, Tennesee

John Kelly is a slightly undersized 5’9″, 205-pound back out of Tennesee. Don’t let the ‘undersized’ label full you, though. He is a tough runner that can break tackles and fight for the extra yards through contact. In fact, he may remind Eagles fans of somebody that they happen to know really well. According to NFL.com’s Lance Zierlein, Kelly has drawn similar comparisons to Corey Clement.

Kelly met with Eagles running backs coach, Duce Staley during the NFL Combine for some small talk. Considering that Staley pretty much runs the rotation of the backfield, any interest from Duce could mean nothing but good things for running backs who aspire to be on the Eagles.

He isn’t exactly a monster on the stat sheet when it comes to the ground game, but his 1,077 scrimmage yards with nine touchdowns looks pretty good on paper. Think back to last season when New Orleans Saints running back Alvin Kamara came into the league. His numbers from Tennesee weren’t anything to brag about, but he sure went into the NFL and blew up in a committee of backs himself.

Well, Kelly enters into the NFL with the same ability to be able to share carries frequently and remain productive. Currently, Kelly is projected to get selected in the fourth round. Could the Eagles snag him with one of their two fourth-rounders on the third day of the draft?
