What are we to gain from Philadelphia Eagles defensive end Chris Long’s Twitter rant? Was he right?

Before anything else is said about Philadelphia Eagles defensive end Chris Long, let’s get something straight. He’s kind of earned the right to express his opinion. Well, he has, hasn’t he? We’re talking about a man who’s played ten seasons in the NFL, done so nobly and been an inspiration to his fans, his teammates and his city.

Long played the 2017 season for free, and though he’s only played one season in Eagles green, he’s endeared himself to their fans and their city forever. It bears repeating. He’s kind of earned the right to speak his mind.

Long slams the ‘Hawks.

For those who may not have heard, Longtime free agent quarterback Colin Kaepernick finally got a workout scheduled, one with the Seattle Seahawks. Then, faster than you can say ‘take a knee’, it was cancelled. Long, never afraid to express his views on issues of a social nature, took to Twitter to express his opinion.

Let’s explore both sides.

More from Eagles News

Let’s settle something for once and for all. Kaepernick’s proven he can play in the NFL. Most of us can argue all day about whether or not he’s good enough to be a starter, but let’s be honest. If Geno Smith, Bryce Petty, Brandon Weeden and Sam Bradford are still in the league, ‘Kap’ deserves a shot somewhere.

Sure, he was benched by two coaches while with the San Francisco 49ers. Yes, it’s probably silly to believe that his decision to protest during the National Anthem (peacefully by the way) didn’t and still doesn’t have anything to do with him being on an NFL roster.

Maybe his theories and the way he expressed them aren’t the only reason he isn’t currently signed, but we can’t act as though they haven’t also hurt his case.

Ultimately, the decision about whether or not to add Kaepernick to a roster rests with the 32 teams in the NFL. Chris Long like so many others has made his decision to side with him. That’s his right. It’s also your right to disagree if you do.
