There’s no reason to worry about Carson Wentz’s statement about ‘jealousy’

Let’s get something straight. Eagles quarterback Carson Wentz was asked a difficult question, and he answered it as well as anyone could have done.

Well, we knew it was coming right? At some point, Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Carson Wentz was going to sit down in a room full of people. Someone was going to ask him about watching his team win the Super Bowl with Nick Foles at the helm and with him on the sidelines, and regardless of how he answered the question, his answer was going to be picked apart.

That conversation finally came on the second day of ‘The Birds’ offseason workout program. Four Eagles, Malcolm Jenkins, Jordan Hicks, Zach Ertz and Wentz sat down with the Philly and national media, and Wentz was asked about five minutes into a fifteen minute conversation about whether or not he needed to fight any feelings of jealousy.

Here’s what he had to say:

"You’ve got to fight that. It’s human nature to want to be on that podium and be that guy. You grow up wanting to do that as a kid, but to not be able to be up there, I would not rather have anyone else be up there than Nick (Foles)."

Okay. What’s wrong with that?

Here’s ITI’s reaction to Wentz’s comments.

We keep replaying his comment. We wrote it down, and we read it. After deliberating, we’ve reached the conclusion that, if you’re someone who’s found something wrong with what Wentz said, that may be a ‘you’ problem. If that isn’t the case, maybe it’s something else. You could simply be looking for controversy where there isn’t any.

This Eagles team is close.

Wentz is a competitor with the typical competitor’s mind state. Of course he wanted to be on the field. So did Foles. Perhaps, Damien Woody on ESPN’s Get Up! said it best. When you’re injured, you don’t feel as though you’re a part of the team. We all know better than that. Wentz knows better than that.

Foles put the icing on the cake that Wentz and company baked all season. When Wentz was the guy, he had the full support of Foles. When Foles took over, Wentz was the ultimate teammate. Number 11 will be back next season, and there will be no quarterback controversy. He’s the guy. Foles is a capable backup.

Sure, ‘Saint Nick’ has said he wants the chance to start again. Why wouldn’t he? That’s what a competitor does. In the meantime, Philly’s in a good spot at quarterback. They’ve got their franchise guy. They’ve got a Super Bowl MVP as the backup.

From what we keep hearing, Nate Sudfeld isn’t too shabby either. Brighter days are ahead in Philly.
