Well, if these guys are right, we can rule out the Philadelphia Eagles trading out of the first round on the NFL Draft.

There’s been no shortage of subplots as the 2018 NFL Draft is just hours from beginning. Perhaps the biggest question, one that’s been asked for a while, is whether or not the Philadelphia Eagles will make a first-round selection. They hold on to a league-low six draft picks, there’s an overwhelming support for the idea of trading down.

If they did that, they’d, no doubt, pick up at least one additional selection.

The plot thickens.

There’s also another theory, and it’s one that suggests the Eagles would be unwilling to move if there was someone too good to pass up. The time for NFL mock drafts are over. The real one is just hours away, but a few of the experts took some time to weigh in with their thoughts.

ESPN’s Todd McShay believes the Eagles go with a running back, namely Sony Michel, formerly of the Georgia Bulldogs, at pick 32. Mel Kiper agrees. He also believes the Eagles focus their attention on Michel.

It appears neither agreed with the idea of a trade, huh?

Here’s why the pick makes sense.

The Eagles appear to be in a state of flux at the running back position. The top two spots on their depth chart are set with Jay Ajayi and Corey Clement. LeGarrette Blount is gone, and Darren Sproles has probably played his last game in an Eagles jersey.

Then, there’s Wendell Smallwood, who the coaching staff seemed to fall out of love with in 2017. We also can’t forget about Donnel Pumphrey.

No one knows how either of the latter two will work out.

Here’s why it doesn’t.

Michel isn’t exactly a slam dunk at pick 32. Michael Lombardi, a man who has recently been thrown into the status of villain in Philadelphia, is still one of the most trusted names among NFL analysts. Recently, he appeared on a podcast for The Ringer, and he confirmed some of the theory that Michel may slide on draft day. Apparently, there are a few teams who are concerned about his medical history.

The Eagles are likely to go the route of addressing their running back concerns over the course of the next three days. Will they do that in the first round? It’s a possibility. Another trusted NFL analyst, Tommy Lawlor, says the Eagles take a running back as well. He disagrees on the name that will be called, but he does like the decision.

How do you vote Eagles nation? Are Lawlor, McShay and and Kiper right? Do the Eagles take a ball carrier or will that wait for a later round? If they do, should that pick be Michel or someone else? Is the first round too early to take a running back or not? We have learned you can pick up great ones later.

Actually, Eagles fans have learned you can get a great one after the draft is over. We won’t have to wait much longer for an answer.
