Steven Means, DE

If there is one position on the Eagles roster that is currently sitting pretty, it’s defensive end. The Eagles pass rush has looked mighty good during the preseason, and we only expect it to get better as the regular season approaches. The position is stacked. There’s no other way to put it. Since there’s a bit of a surplus when it comes to pass rushers, it makes it very hard for less recognized talents like Steven Means to make the roster.

Means has been in the NFL for quite some time now. The 27-year-old defensive end has suited up for three different teams, before joining the Eagles back in 2015. Unfortunately, Means never surpassed the other veterans on the depth chart. In fact, he didn’t even beat out an inexperienced rookie in Derek Barnett for more snaps last season.

This year, Means may be buried even more as the Eagles brought on two more pass rushers. It’s crazy because Means makes plays when he’s on the field. But the Eagles just have way too much talent in the defensive line room. So all of his hard work almost goes unnoticed half the time. If he can continue his solid preseason, then we can assume that the Eagles would want to hold onto Means once again for the year. After all, they do love their depth for pass rushers up front.
