Jalen Mills, CB

Eagles cornerback Jalen Mills had it rough last week. Now, here’s a guy that served the Eagles secondary well at times last season. But we all seem to forget at times how prone he is to let up big plays. During week one, Mills was toast against the Atlanta Falcons. During week two, Mills was again, toasted by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. In case you’re missing the trend here, Mills is not off to great start this season.

Can he bounce back? Absolutely! But it’s not going to be easy for the 24-year-old former seventh-round pick. Unfortunately, many errors by young players typically come from lacking confidence. Usually, Mills is the most energetic and confident player in the secondary. But lately, he hasn’t given himself the opportunity to flash that energy. Mix in the heavy criticism from the fans, and now we’re looking at a potential confidence issue.

Mills’ needs a big week not just for the sake of winning, but for his self-confidence. The good news is that Colts passing game will not have as many weapons as the Bucs did last week. So this could be the week where Mills gains his swagger back. If not, we could be looking at another long day in the secondary on Mills’ side of the field.
