Have we seen Jay Ajayi’s last game on the Eagles?

Is the Jay Ajayi stint with the Philadelphia Eagles officially over?

Nothing is going right for the Philadelphia Eagles right now. Not only are they struggling on the field, but they keep on losing key players to season-ending injuries. A couple of weeks ago it was Rodney McLeod who was announced out for the season. Now, the Eagles are set to move forward without their running back, Jay Ajayi.

As everybody assumed that Ajayi’s back issues turned into something bigger, we were shocked to find out that Ajayi actually tore his ACL in Sunday’s game. Somehow, Ajayi tried to keep on pushing through the pain, but he would later find out that his injury would require season-ending surgery.

With that, the Eagles were forced to put Ajayi on the injured reserve, to join more than a few critical starters for this season. After realizing that Ajayi was on the final year of his contract, does that mean that we have seen his last days as a Philadelphia Eagles running back?

Turning a new page:

It’s unfortunate, but this was Ajayi’s official rehearsal year for the Eagles. Sure, he was a vital part of the Eagles late-season success during last year’s Super Bowl run, but it was unclear if he was honestly supposed to be the running back of the future moving forward.

The Eagles kept him around and decided not to spend a high-quality draft pick on a running back during the draft, which could’ve indicated that they were all in on Ajayi for at least 2018.

His status with the Eagles beyond this season was unclear. Seeing as though his knees were already a red flag for the medical staff and the front office, we’re sure that a season-ending knee injury is not going to help his cause when re-negotiation time comes around.

As rough as it is to say, Ajayi more-than-likely played his final game in an Eagles uniform on Sunday. Moving forward, the Eagles will have to find somebody else to lead the pack along with Corey Clement in the future. Whether it’s through trade now, or through the draft later, the Eagles will have to figure it out soon enough, and it won’t be Ajayi.
