Avonte Maddox, S

As much as you wanted to get mad at Avonte Maddox for his performance last week, you just can’t. He’s a rookie cornerback who has been converted to safety on the fly and has never played the position ever. I don’t really know why the Eagles made Maddox the chosen one for this role, but they did, and now we’re stuck with it.

To make matters even worse, Corey Graham has already been ruled out for the game. Now, the Eagles are stuck on their third-string safety, with the practice squad’s Tre Sullivan in the mix as well. It’s going to be a tough week for Maddox, but the only thing the Eagles can do at this point is to have faith in the kid.

The secondary needs to figure something out quickly. The Giants could let up a ton of pressure from the Eagles pass rush, but don’t count on it. The Giants were smart enough to counter that pressure last season with quick throws, and it worked reasonably well. Maddox may be tested once again this week, and hopefully, he’s learned from his mistakes.
