The Season of Injuries

It would be an understatement to say that injuries are not a major contributing factor for Philly’s woes this season.

The list too extensive to name every player who has been sidelined this year, but you check out the 2018 Philadelphia Eagles Injuries on the Pro-Football-Reference website for a clearer understanding.

Predominantly, the defense, especially the secondary, has been severely hit with the ‘injury bug’ all year.

With Philly’s top five cornerbacks (Ronald Darby, Jalen Mills, Sidney Jones, Rasul Douglas, and Avonte Maddox) injured head coach Doug Pederson reportedly has had to use receivers in practice this week to fill the position, according to ESPN’s Tim McManus

On the other side of the ball, the Eagles have suffered season-ending injuries from the running back and wide receiver positions. While the offensive line has been ‘dinged up’ there has been no long-term injuries.

Since Darren Sproles, who has been out since Week 1, and Jay Ajayi, who tore his ACL in Week 5, both went down, Philly has yet to find their stride in the running game.

The Eagles acquired both wide receivers Jordan Matthews from the Buffalo Bills and Golden Tate from the Detroit Lions to fill in for injured WR Mike Wallace and Mack Hollins. Still, Philly’s offensive coordinator Mike Groh said he finds its “challenging” to integrate Tate into his offense.
