Carson Wentz’s injury raises huge questions about Eagles’ medical staff
News of Carson Wentz’s injury sent shock waves though the NFL. Don’t be surprised if a huge spotlight begins to shine on the Philadelphia Eagles medical staff.
Once upon a time, former Philadelphia Eagles linebacker Emmanuel Acho began complaining about issues he had with the team’s medical staff. Some listened. Others didn’t. What was interesting was he never lost any intensity in the passion with which he was complaining. Here we are, in 2018, just days before Christmas, and Philly’s franchise quarterback, Carson Wentz is hurt.
The most disturbing part is he’s probably been dealing with this new injury for a while. Since the news broke mid week, there’s been talk about drama, and several other Eagles have come forward. One was Emmanuel Acho.

Since then, other players, including former Eagles, have begun to speak up. Ladies and gentlemen, we’ve got some serious issues here. Former Eagles safety Earl Wolff tweeted from his own account, stating the following:
"2013 Tore PCL. Forced back In to mess it up again. Missed rest of year. 2014, 4 MRIs on my knee in 5 months. Couldn’t squat 135 pounds In that 5 month span but “nothing was wrong with my knee”. Got a microfracture. 2015 Out 9 months. Cleared for 5 days. Another major procedure"
Then, there’s Will Blackmon, a 12-year vet and current NFL Network analyst. He followed Acho’s sentiments with a few of his own. Take a gander:
"TEAM Doctors work for the TEAM. Players Go get a 2nd, 3rd, & 4th opinion because very few TEAM doctors keep it #TheStruggleIsReal"
Acho’s been ripping the Eagles’ medical staff for a while. Again, some listened, and others didn’t, but now, we’re talking about Philly’s franchise signal caller.
That leads to questions about Darren Sproles sitting out for the majority of the season with what was supposed to be a hamstring injury, every time we’ve been told by Eagles head coach Doug Pederson that so and so is ‘day to day’, and, to be honest, every injury, whether major or minor, that the Eagles report from this day going forward.
We’ve gone from Wentz not even being seen on an injury report to him, now, being listed as questionable in a game against the same team and in the same stadium where he tore two major knee ligaments and the Eagles franchise changed forever.
Longtime hot spot for Eagles info Bleeding Green Nation discussed this same topic recently and made several interesting points. We, at ITI, echo many of them.
Remember when we were all debating whether or not Wentz had come back too early and whether or not team doctors had made the right decision? Now, we may hear more about Jay Ajayi playing with a back injury and tearing his ACL. We may begin debating Tim Jernigan’s surprise surgery following Super Bowl 52 and the long absence that followed.
We may begin to reopen discussions about Jalen Mills injuring his foot in Week 8 but not being placed on the team’s IR (injured reserve) until after Week 13.
The Eagles saw their head athletic trainer of 19 years, Chris Peduzzi, step down after Philly won their first Super Bowl. In corresponding moves, two other doctors, including the team’s head physician, were allowed to leave. ‘The Birds’ announced a new medical team on August 8th. No one batted an eyelash, at least until now.
Most of this never seemed to be a huge issue until this season, but with all that’s going on, there may be some attention paid to this one going forward. We’ll have to wait and see what happens.
