Philadelphia Eagles: One Bears expert reveals their most glaring weaknesses
ITI: Who is Mitch Trubisky? Is he the guy to lead the Bears into the future? Is he even a guy that can win this playoff game?
Burzawa:
For me, Mitch is probably the biggest X-factor in this game. To be really honest, if Trubisky can just avoid the big mistakes and manage the game, I think the Bears win this game running away, but that’s a big “if.”
In what was probably the Bears’ biggest game of the season against the Rams a few weeks ago, Trubisky posted a stat line of 16/30 with one touchdown and three interceptions.
If Trubisky does that on Sunday, I think the Soldier Field faithful will be going home very upset. Keep in mind, that was Trubisky’s first game back after missing a couple, so maybe that was a case of “shaking off the rust” rather than wilting under the pressure of a big game.
Trubisky has shown the traits that enticed the Bears into trading up to select him as the first quarterback off the board in a draft class that included Deshaun Watson and Patrick Mahomes.
Both of those guys are benefitting from being in their systems for two seasons while Trubisky is still learning Nagy’s. Trubisky has surprising speed and elusiveness while his pocket awareness has improved throughout the season. If he can do a better job and reading defenses and going through his progressions, the sky is the limit for the Bears’ signal caller.
