Jordan Matthews

Age: 26

Last Team: Philadelphia Eagles

This will be either a really popular pick, or a hated one. Regardless, it should be considered. If the Eagles choose to go the draft route for a speedy wide receiver, then it’s a logical move to bring Jordan Matthews back into the picture and here’s why. Once again, if the Eagles take the draft route, more often than not, it’s going to be hard to get immediate value out of the rookie.

That means the Eagles may need to throw Nelson Agholor in as a deep threat, which opens up the slot position. Before, Golden Tate filled that void. Now, they don’t have anybody on the roster who could do so. That’s where Jordan Matthews comes in to play. The Eagles decision to bring Matthews back last year didn’t make much sense from a personnel standpoint. When they did bring him back, it was because there was no depth, due to injuries and cuts.

Now, bringing Matthews back could make sense not only for strategy purposes but for team chemistry and familiarity as well. Obviously, re-signing Matthews means you don’t have to worry about him understanding the playbook on working on a chemistry with Wentz. All of that is already down pat. Plus, Matthews would probably come back pretty cheap. Considering that he was a reliable rotational piece for the Birds passing game, it wouldn’t be a bad idea to bring him back for another season or two.
