David Long, Michigan, CB

PFF’s Take: “Long is sneaking into the first round as well as the Eagles need to continue to build cornerback depth.”

Once again, the Eagles’ taking a cornerback in the first round doesn’t make much sense, when they have five guys still on their rookie contract fighting for a starting spot. So if Michigan’s David Long is ‘sneaking’ into the first round, it’s hard to believe this is where the Eagles go with their pick. But as always, we have to expect the unexpected when it comes to the NFL. Especially since we’re dealing with Howie Roseman here, who always tends to surprise us.

Also, who knows? Maybe a trade goes down at some point later on down the line. While the Eagles seemed stacked with talented depth, it also appears as though they have a player or two, who isn’t exactly favored by Jim Schwartz. Maybe Long makes a difference in this case.

Although he is a bit undersized at five-foot-eleven, Long makes up for his look by transforming into a physical bully. As he’s recognized as giving wideouts a hard time by jamming them at the line, it’s hard to imagine that matters much to Eagles as they rarely play in press coverage. The idea of having a physical cornerback in midnight green is wonderful, but would he really fit in Schwartz’s system? Again, this pick raises some eyebrows for sure, but we can’t rule anything.
