Timmy Jernigan, DT

Is a long-awaited Timmy Jernigan-Eagles reunion in the works? Yes, I am sarcastic as the Eagles just released Jernigan about a month ago to free up some much-needed cap space similar to Wisniewski’s situation. However, this situation is slightly different. Wiz had issues within the locker room with players and coaches. Jernigan, well, he seemed liked by his teammates.

The issue with Jernigan was the fact that the Eagles offered him a generous extension midway through the 2017 season and seemingly got buyers remorse the following year. During the 2018 offseason, Jernigan suffered a back injury, and it wasn’t on company time. To this day, we still don’t know exactly what happened, but it almost led to an early release. Jernigan played with the Eagles throughout their final stand of the 2018 offseason, but they still got rid of his ugly contract.

Surprisingly, Jernigan is still available. The Eagles upgraded the defensive tackle spot with Malik Jackson, but they could still use some depth behind him. Could a cheaper Jernigan return be in the cards? I wouldn’t rule it out. As long as there weren’t any behind-the-scenes issues with Jernigan and the Eagles’ front office, they could be in contact with the tackle for a potential signing depending on how the NFL Draft plays out.
