Wide Receiver, DeAndre Thompkins

Thompkins is one of what seems like twenty Penn State Nittany Lions that the Eagles have on their roster. He’s different from Shareef Miller and Miles Sanders in the fact that he didn’t actually hear his name called during the NFL Draft.

He still may represent some value as the Eagles may have found a very good punt returner. If he has some nice showings in the preseason, ‘The Birds’ may save him a roster spot, but that’s a very big if.

Running back, (Tie) Donnel PumphreyWendell Smallwood

So, what does 211 career carries, 47 receptions, 850 rushing yards, and 388 receiving yards get you? It lands you on the ‘the bubble’. Despite doing everything mentioned, and adding 387 return yards, it never seems like Wendell Smallwood’s roster spot is certain.

Some believe this will be the year that he’ll be given his walking papers, but we’re a long way from putting a final roster together. Pumphrey’s already been cut in the minds of so many Eagles fans, but the coaches just won’t say it’s over.

Can Pumphrey finally take the bull by the horns?

Quarterback, Cody Kessler

In the minds of most of us, the depth chart looks like this. Carson Wentz is the starter. Nate Sudfeld is the backup. Clayton Thorson is, hopefully, the young prodigy.

Kessler does have NFL experience however. Would Philly even entertain the idea of keeping him as the third guy and, maybe, placing Thorson on the practice squad? Again, it’s a very big if, and Kessler will enter training cam as the long shot, but it could work out in his favor. At least, that’s what we think, but the jury is still out on that one.
