Eagles tight end Zach Ertz will head to France to cheer his wife, Julie, on in the World Cup. Come on. Did anyone think that he wouldn’t?

Come on guys. It’s the World Cup. Just saying or reading those words should be enough to send an adrenaline rush through you. For Philadelphia Eagles tight end Zach Ertz, this one has some extra special significance.

’86’ will be heading to France to see his wife compete for what equates as the Super Bowl of soccer. Or should we say futbol? Well, you get the point. No one’s intention is to be disrespectful, but let’s be honest. To the NFL fan, the word football can’t be said without thinking about shoulder pads, a helmet, and an oblong ball.

Still, irregardless of how you look at it, Julie Ertz has the potential to be a part of something special. She’s a starting defensive midfielder for the U.S. Women’s National Team, and she’s also a standout for the Chicago Red Stars.

Tuesday, the United States will open their quest for the World Cup as they face Thailand. If you’ve seen the many different clips NFL Films put together on the Eagles Super Bowl 52 victory, you’ve been treated to shots of Ertz diving into the end zone to put ‘The Birds’ up for good and Mrs. Ertz cheering him on.

This time, Zach gets to play the role of cheerleader. No one thought he wouldn’t, did they? As sports fans and as Americans, many of us will join in on the hype and cheer right along with Philly’s starting tight end, but if you’re a husband, you have to understand why this has to feel special.

Most of us won’t get to see what the atmosphere feels like first hand, but we do know one thing. That won’t make this any less exciting for the rest of us ether.
