‘The People’s Champ’ Freddie Mitchell made an appearance at Vinny Curry’s free football camp recently. Is it us, or does this guy still make you smile?

It’s good to see former Philadelphia Eagles support the guys on the current roster. Recently, we got a chance to see that happen as ‘The People’s Champ’ Freddie Mitchell made an appearance at Vinny Curry‘s football camp.

Before we get into that, you have to hear this story.

Once upon a time in a land far away, we’ll call it the 2001 NFL Draft, teams dove headfirst into a selection meeting that’s never been an exact science, and several names were called. Many of them would become all-time legends. Some of them would evolve into are sure-fire Pro Football Hall of Famers.

Michael Vick went first overall, and for the next three days, the NFL changed forever.

How about this though? What if we told you Reggie Wayne, Steve Smith and Chad Johnson all could have been drafted by the Philadelphia Eagles? Philly was on the clock with the 25th-overall selection and with guys like Drew Brees available, they went with Freddie Mitchell out of UCLA.

Okay, so no one would have expected them to take Brees with Donovan McNabb already on the roster, and we had no way of knowing Reggie Wayne and Steve Smith were future Hall of Famers. Still, it makes you think, doesn’t it?

Many remember Mitchell for having a bunch of nicknames, ‘The People’s Champ’ and ‘Fred Ex’ for instance, but no Eagles fan will ever forget his catch on ‘4th and 26’. The Eagles fan’s love for their team can’t be questioned, but ‘Eagles Everywhere’ and ‘Fly Eagles Fly’ hashtags has taught us something else.

This team loves each other, and there’s a growing comradery between both current and former Eagles alike. Isn’t it nice to see former Eagles supporting the current ‘Birds’? Don’t you enjoy seeing Brian Dawkins on the sideline and Jeremiah Trotter at the Super Bowl parade?

There’s a family vibe that continues to grow for the team that plays in the ‘City of Brotherly Love’, and recently we saw that again as Freddie Mitchell made an appearance at Vinny Curry’s Fourth Annual Vinny Curry Football Camp. Over 200 children were in attendance.

‘Fred Ex’ even hung out with Josh Hennig of South Jersey’s own ESPN 97.3. Here’s some of that conversation:

It’s almost like when you see the former Miami Hurricanes on the sideline to support the new guys. Perhaps, it’s that growing college atmosphere that we once discussed. Who knows what it is, but here’s something to think about.

dark. Next. Is Zach Brown a top-ten linebacker?

Seeing these great Eagles support each other for their outside ventures is enough to make any Eagles fan smile. Cue the ‘Eagles Everywhere’ hashtags. It’s great to see the family vibe. It’s never been bad news to know we get to catch a glimpse of ‘The People’s Champ’ either. Well done guys. Well done.
