Is Wentz the best pick of this decade?

The Eagles selected Carson Wentz back in 2016 with the second-overall pick. Wentz would quickly rise to stardom as he started for the Eagles right off the bat. He was impressive to start the year, but it wouldn’t be long before he hit his rookie wall. While Wentz was at fault for some of his mistakes that year, he shouldn’t be judged by his stat line.

That season, the Eagles had one of the worst wide receiving cores in the league. Not to mention, their run game was not up to par as well. Mix all of that in with the fact that the head coach is a rookie as well and you get the exact results of an underwhelming season.

The next year is what really silenced the doubters though. Wentz was one of the best quarterbacks in football until he went down with an ACL injury. He wasn’t able to lead his team to Super Bowl LII, but he sure put them in a much more comfortable position before going out with the injury. Year three wasn’t as impressive, but that doesn’t mean it wasn’t good.

Three years into the league and Wentz has over 10,000 passing yards, 70 touchdowns to only 28 interceptions and a passer rating of 92.5. Recently he received a contract extension, officially making him the franchise quarterback of the Philadelphia Eagles. When a team is able to find their franchise quarterback for potentially the next decade, there should be no question about whether they are the best first pick or not.
