1. Wendell Smallwood, RB

Some would say that former West Virginia running back Wendell Smallwood has nine lives on the Philadelphia Eagles. He might not have reached year number nine, but we were shocked to find out he made it through three. Could this be the year the Eagles let Smallwood loose? Or will they continue to stash the former fourth-round pick deep on the depth chart?

Last season, Smallwood benefitted from a long list of injuries, which occurred at the top of the depth chart. It eventually got to a point where Smallwood had to do a lot more than expected. He finished off the year with 115 total touches for 594 yards and five total touchdowns. He wasn’t bad — but at the same time, he wasn’t all that great either.

It seemed as though Smallwood’s days were done after the Eagles traded for Jay Ajayi in 2017. Smallwood would become the odd man out and only appear in eight games. The departure of LeGarrette Blount and Kenjon Barner kept a spot open for Smallwood in 2018 though. I’m not sure if he gets as lucky this year. He’s got a lot to prove in his fourth preseason.
