Josh Perkins, TE

This week, veteran tight end Richard Rodgers returned to the field after dealing with a foot injury throughout training camp. Not even a full two days into practice, Rodgers was getting carted off of the field as he re-aggravated his initial injury. Now, he’s forced to miss multiple weeks, pretty much declaring that his preseason is over.

That leaves the third tight end spot wide open for the taking. Last season, Josh Perkins had that role solidified with Rodgers out, but he ended up suffering an injury of his own later on down the line. Before, it seemed like Perkins wouldn’t have a chance at cracking the roster, but suddenly, his chances take a leap with Rodgers down for the count.

Matt Pryor, OL

Last week, Matt Pryor was obviously the weak link on the Eagles offensive line. It wasn’t a secret that he was struggling up front. As of right now subtracting injuries, the Eagles offensive line is very strong and rich in-depth. They can afford to get rid of underperforming players. Not to mention, they just signed a new lineman from Army in Brett Toth.

Considering that they offered him a multi-year deal, there’s no way he’s included in final cuts. And seeing as though the Eagles have been mixing these guys in and out from tackle to guard, the offense clearly feels comfortable with keeping guys on board who show value in being multi-talented. Pryor, so far has shown nothing but constant struggles.

Josh McCown, QB

Two weeks ago, Nate Sudfeld was the second-string quarterback — but then he went down with a broken wrist. Last week, Cody Kessler was the new second-string quarterback — but he then went down with a concussion. Knowing they weren’t confident in Clayton Thorson’s abilities to be a backup just yet, the Eagles were able to pull some strings and get Josh McCown to unretire.

McCown not only is a career backup, but he has some starting experience as well. And suddenly, Nate Sudfeld might be pushed back to being a third-string quarterback once again. McCown’s not great, but he definitely isn’t a terrible passer. It will be interesting to see what he’s able to do with less than a week’s worth of preparation on Thursday.
