3 Thoughts on another test of Eagles QB Carson Wentz’s leadership
2. His team must rally around him.
After Julio Jones’s back-breaking go-ahead touchdown, Wentz, again, had to absorb punishment and drive the Eagles down the field for the win. He threw an absolutely perfect pass that Agholor dropped. That one would have resulted in a go-ahead touchdown or a monster gain that would have, at minimum, gotten the Eagles deep into the red zone.
Wentz would hit Agholor later on a prayer to convert a 4th and long to keep the drive alive. that also gave Agholor some much-needed redemption. On the 4th and 8 that would ultimately decide the game, Ertz ran his route just a tad short and could not fight the extra inch to convert.
3. It’s a long season, and it’s far from being over.
Jeffrey and Jackson may both miss the next two games, and with Goedert being day to day, Wentz’s weapons will still be limited. If there’s any silver lining, it’s this. The Eagles will have the benefit of knowing that ahead of time. The reserves now get to practice with the first team and build chemistry.
The Eagles host the Detroit Lions at 1:00 PM EST on Sunday. After that, they travel to the Green Bay to play the Packers on a short week. There are still hills to climb, and it’s a long season. One thing’s certain. Wentz is on the right track to silence his doubters, and his leadership can no longer be questioned. Then again, it’s not like anyone ever could legitimately.
