ITI: What’s been the response to Adam Gase? What was the thinking behind his hire, and can he truly be successful if Todd Bowles wasn’t?

Justin T. Fried: The response to Adam Gase‘s hire was overwhelmingly negative and he hasn’t exactly done himself any favors with the team’s start to the season. Many viewed Gase as the least attractive option on the market and the offense’s struggles so far haven’t been a cause for optimism.

The jury is still out, of course, but you’d be hard-pressed to find many Jets fans who are pleased with the job he has done so far. He can be successful, but we’re going to need to see a lot more than we’ve seen through three games, injuries or not.

Boy Green: What was I thinking at first? The hire was much maligned. To be candid, I do a weekly New York Jets podcast called ‘The Jets Zone’. When Todd Bowles was fired, I went on the air and told my listeners there was only one head coach that I didn’t want.

That was Adam Gase.

With that being said, you can imagine my reaction when he was hired, but like most things that you’re forced to accept, I rationalized it and so have the majority of Jets fans.

The thinking behind the hire made a ton of sense and makes sense now. Gase is heralded as an offensive genius. The team’s biggest asset is Sam Darnold so why wouldn’t you want to hire an offensive coach? If he can be the quarterback whisperer everyone says he is, then he’ll be a home-run hire. If he isn’t, he won’t last long.
