One NFL legend that most closely resembles Wilson: Warren Moon

Okay, some of you are throwing the challenge flag. Russell Wilson may no longer reserve any right to be considered as one of the young guys, but he’s not Tom Brady or Aaron Rodgers or Drew Brees either. Plus he still looks like he’s 22 years old.

When those legends and future first-ballot Hall of Famers finally call it a career, it will be up to Wilson, and Wentz, and Mahomes, and Watson, and Allen to carry the torch until some new guys come along and take it from them.

Why does Wilson remind us of Warren Moon? It’s simple for several reasons. Both excited generations of football fans in the Pacific Northwest. Wilson has done so with the Seattle Seahawks. Moon did so with the Washington Huskies and also with the Seahawks at the end of his career.

Both came close to never getting their opportunity. Moon battled racial stereotypes. Wilson was too small and too short. The last reason is this. Moon is now a member of the Pro Football Hall of Fame. Wilson figures to join him when his playing days are over.

Oh, and by the way, both throw a beautiful long ball. Just think about that time Wilson’s pass in overtime of the NFC Championship Game lifted the Seattle Seahawks to the Super Bowl. The only thing that might be prettier is any one of Moon’s 291 touchdown passes. Look them up sometimes. You’re in for a treat when you do.
