Philadelphia Eagles: 5 Players that are key to a victory over Vikings
5. Zach Ertz, TE
The narrative is coming back — “Carson Wentz targets Zach Ertz too much!” While that’s not particularly true, it does feel like at times Wentz seems to stare Ertz down, making it obvious where he’s going with the ball.
But at this point, defenses know they have to lock up Alshon Jeffery, and Nelson Agholor has been underperforming. With DeSean Jackson off the field and Alshon getting tons of attention from the secondary, Zach Ertz becomes Wentz’s most reliable option. And if targeting him works — why not continue to feed him the ball?
As long as Agholor, Mack Hollins, and JJ Arcega-Whiteside continue to underwhelm, Wentz is going to get the ball to Ertz. It’s not an ideal scenario as we would like to see the quarterback spread it around, but there are not really many options for Wentz to target right now. Therefore, don’t be surprised to see a heavy workload for Zach Ertz on Sunday.
