Shareef Miller, DE

Round 4, Pick 138

The Eagles needed to draft a defensive end after trading away Michael Bennett and losing Chris Long to retirement. While the front office did go out and sign Vinny Curry, he ended up only inking a one-year deal. So the Eagles knew they had to start drafting some young guys to develop.

Although the defensive end position was a need for the Eagles, they waited until round four to go there. While we all wanted to see somebody come in and contribute within the rotation right away, that was realistically never going to happen with Shareef Miller.

As always, fourth-round picks are typically projects. These players need time to learn the game at the next level and develop their skillsets. The Eagles never drafted Miller expecting to play him right away. As Lane Johnson said earlier on Friday — just wait. Miller will have plenty of time to develop, and it’s too early to evaluate his progress.
