5 Darren Sproles games Philadelphia Eagles fans won’t forget
5. December 23rd, 2018: Week 16 versus the Houston Texans
It’s been sad to see Sproles battle those injuries over the past three seasons, but some good came out of all of it.
Had he not broken his arm and a torn his ACL on the same play in Week 3 versus the hated New York Giants, Philly may have never traded for Jay Ajayi. You could also argue that Corey Clement might have never taken off. That might have meant no long catch and run at the end of the first half in Super Bowl LII. That might have meant there might not have been a ‘Philly Special’ in the Super Bowl. That might have meant there would have never been that catch in the back of the endzone that Foles tossed to Clement.
Still, there isn’t an Eagles fan that didn’t want to see Sproles come back and win a Super Bowl with his team while he was on the field. Unfortunately, it wouldn’t work out that way. After seeing his 2017 season end prematurely, Sproles missed a considerable portion of the 2018 season with a hamstring issue, but he proved he could still make magic happen.
No one will ever forget Philly’s late-season rally to make the postseason in 2018. No one will ever forget that game versus the Houston Texans in Week 16 of that season. No one will ever forget Sproles’ touchdown catch that came on fourth down in that one.
Thank you for everything, Mr. Sproles! If this is it, every Eagle fan loves you. If this is it, no Eagles fan will ever forget what you did for this team.
