1. The Eagles’ time of possession must exceed thirty minutes

In the Pederson era, the Eagles have experienced most of their success when they control the clock. This was a major part of the Super Bowl championship and in the final push that sent the Eagles to the playoffs last year.

Since the start of the 2017 season, the Eagles have a record of 21-7 when the possess the ball for more than thirty minutes. Give Pederson’s offense 35 minutes with the ball, and they’re 14-4 when that happens. The Patriots offense has not been as dynamic as it has been in recent years, but with the Eagles’ secondary issues, it is going to be important to keep the Patriots offense off of the field. Not only will this allow the Eagles to control the game. It ensures the defense is rested for their next drive.

The struggles of the Eagles secondary has been overshadowed by the strong play of the defensive line, the average receiving corps of the Bills, and the poor passing of the Chicago Bears. This week they will face a tougher test with a powerful Patriots offensive line and speedy weapons who are dangerous in space.

To win this game, the Eagles cannot allow defensive backs like Ronald Darby to be on the field too long in coverage with the likes of Julian Edelman. Also, the running back duo of Sony Michel and James White present plenty of problems. Tom Brady could tear Philly’s defense apart with check-downs, quick slants, Sluggo routes, and screen passes if he is on the field for too long.
