Injury report reveals another issue with Philadelphia Eagles medical staff
As if we weren’t annoyed enough with the Philadelphia Eagles medical staff, a surprise name on Thursday’s injury report raises another red flag.
Without even getting into every single red flag that’s been raised over the Philadelphia Eagles medical staff, there’s something that we all can agree on. The fans, the media, and everybody else may not be privy to all of the information that goes on behind the scenes with Philly’s medical team, but it’s been too often that we hear negative reports.
We could go on and on from injuries that weren’t detected until later (Carson Wentz literally playing with a broken back for instance), and then, there’s DeSean Jackson.
Sure, the responsibility of monitoring Jackson’s health ultimately falls on Jackson, and the decision to have surgery is his and his alone. Still, if the medical team can’t convince a player of the importance of having surgery earlier in the season, as Jackson clearly should have done, might we be able to gather that they either failed to appropriately communicate to Jackson how important the said surgery was or, even worse.
Maybe they did and he just didn’t respect the advice?
That’s not good, but here are two other things. One, Jordan Howard suffered this ‘stinger’ about a month ago. Why isn’t he ready? Are they failing to get him ready? Are they confused about how to handle an issue most teams and team doctors would consider to be minor or is it something else?
What if this is another wrong diagnosis? What if Howard’s ‘stinger’ isn’t actually a ‘stinger’ but a more severe shoulder injury?
Here’s the other thing. On the Thursday leading up to Week 14’s game, the Eagles released an injury report, and there was a surprise name on the ledger. It appears, all of a sudden, that Kamu Grugier-Hill is in the NFL’s concussion protocol. Wait! No one knew or was able to detect this on Sunday?
Muscle and tissue injuries are one thing and that’s bad enough, but this is a brain injury that we’re discussing. The inability to diagnose this when it happens by the medical team of a professional sports franchise is inexcusable. What’s going on at the Novacare Complex? Don’t be surprised (or disappointed) if the Eagles rid themselves of this medical staff and soon.
