3. Josh Sweat, defensive end

With Chris Long gone, the Eagles have been missing a defensive lineman who can provide decent snaps on passing down. They had Michael Bennett, but they let him get out of town. Josh Sweat has to fill a little bit of that void. He’s played in all 12 games and is getting pressure when he is on the field. Jim Schwartz and Phillip Daniels are gaining more confidence with each passing week.

Despite playing just 31 percent of the Eagles’ defensive snaps, Sweat has three sacks, three tackles for loss, seven hits on the quarterback, two quarterback hurries, and one pass deflection. He’s contacted the quarterback in each of the last three games, and he’s been in on a sack in each of the last two games. Those are solid numbers. He’s been a pleasant surprise for the defensive line this year.

The Eagles took a chance on Sweat in the fourth round of the 2018 draft, partially because of the knowledge of his history with knee injuries. It’s starting to pay off, and if he continues to progress in the right direction, he could see more playing time. For now, he is going to be an important part of this playoff push as a pass rusher.
