8. Cre’Von LeBlanc, cornerback

After missing the first half of the season with a foot injury sustained in training camp, the ‘Strap’ is back. Cre’Von LeBlanc was the star of this defense down the stretch last year as he finished as the highest-graded cornerback in the playoffs by Pro Football Focus.

LeBlanc made big play after big play whether it was flipping Adam Shaheen on a big third-down stop, jarring the ball loose on what looked like a sure catch from Anthony Miller, or picking off Drew Brees on the first play in the divisional round.

Last week, it was good to get him back on the field and get him some action. Now, we’ll likely see him more often on passing downs when the Eagles go to a dime defense. Avonte Maddox has been decent at the nickel corner, so the Eagles will likely keep him there for now. LeBlanc could see some time and serve as the backup nickel corner.

If there are any issues at safety or the Eagles want to show some three-safety looks at opposing offenses like they did last year with Tre Sullivan, they could put Maddox back there, and that could force Philly to utilize LeBlanc more action. If there are any more injury issues at cornerback, Maddox could move back to the outside cornerback and LeBlanc could come in.

Cre’Von plays with different energy and swagger than most players. You have to have a certain type of attitude as a corner. Jalen Mills brings this type of attitude to the defense but doesn’t make as many plays as LeBlanc does. Don’t be surprised if LeBlanc has another magical performance these next few weeks to help fuel the playoff push.
