1. ‘The Body Bag Game’

As stated earlier. some games are forever recognized by a name. Eagles fans have a reputation for being tough, and as a result, they want their teams to be tough. That was never an issue when Buddy Ryan was in town.

Eagles fans may not remember scores all of the time. They may not be familiar with the stats on a consistent basis, but they can tell you when somebody gets knocked out. On November 12th of 1990 on Monday Night Football (there goes that big stage again), the Eagles knocked out quite a few Redskins, nine to be exact.

The Redskins were already shorthanded as Mark Rypien was sidelined with an injury. Ryan, in his usual Ryan bravado, gave this game its’ nickname as he told the media prior to the contest that Washington would have to be “carted off in body bags”.

Philly was true to its’ word, both of Rypien’s backups were knocked out of the game with an injury, and a rookie running back Brian Mitchell, who had a nice tour of duty in Philly, as fate would have it, was forced to come in and have to try and play quarterback. It didn’t work. Just in case you’re wondering Eagles fans, the final score in that one was 28-14.

Unfortunately, the Redskins returned the favor when they made a return trip to Veterans Stadium and beat the Eagles in the NFC Wildcard Playoffs by a score of 20 to six. Still, that cold night in November of 1990 sits on top of this list. We dare anyone to disagree.

Honorable mention: We keep thinking about that Donovan McNabb run and that victory in D.C. We just couldn’t work him onto the list.
