7. October 17th, 1948: The most lopsided shutout of the series’ history

Nothing says ‘satisfying’ or ‘one of the best wins’ like a shutout or a blowout victory. How about a combination of the two? In 1948, Greasy Neal led the Eagles to a 9-2-1 record and the NFL Eastern Division Title. They’d win their first NFL Championship in their 16th season by knocking off the Chicago Cardinals by a score of 7-0 on December 19th of 1948.

Much of the story of that season revolves around that game as it should, but let’s take a minute to discuss just how dominant the Eagles were.

Four of their nine regular-season wins were shutouts, including the most lopsided shutout win of the Eagles and Redskins rivalry. Try an Eagles win by a score of 45-0 on for size. One year earlier, these two put 87 points up as Philly won by a 45-42 score. One year later, Philly lit up the scoreboard again, but the ‘Skins wouldn’t be able to match them.
