. The 'Pickle Juice Game'. 12. player. 54. .

September 3rd of 2000: Eagles: 41, Cowboys: 14

To the Eagles and Cowboys that played in the ‘Pickle Juice Game’, this one had to be exhausting. The on-field temperature was 109 degrees, but according to stories, the humidity made it feel like it was nearing 130. For many mortal men and women, that’s a reason to stay indoors, crank up the air conditioner, and have a few glasses of lemonade.

That wasn’t an option for the Eagles and Cowboys on the opening weekend of the new millennium’s first regular-season game, so instead of lemonade, the Eagles players were given pickle juice to keep them from wilting in the heat.

Maybe they should drink pickles juice before every game.

Philly had begun this practice during training camp the previous Summer as a means to prevent dehydration. They revisited the idea on opening weekend, and the rest, as they say, is history. Philly began the game with a surprise onside kick that was successful. Duce Staley ran for 202 yards, and the Eagles won by a score of 41-14. It was Dallas’ worst opening day loss since 1963.
